There is Gold Here & I Intend to Find It

April 30, 2017 I scribbled this statement in my journal after moving across the country and starting a new life in Texas. 2021 has brought forth the rest of the story…

There is gold here and I intend to find it.

If I die upon this mountain,
If I fall along the way,
If I listen to the scoffers and what they have to say.
If my bags are stripped of me;
Yet, if I end up blind,
There is gold here that I intend to find.

If my work is done through tears,
If my hand is on the plow for years,
If I trodded on just to see
The wrong path lying beneath me
I will continue on my quest;
There is gold here I will not rest.

I planted my seed in this soil;
A hope and prayer watered with toil.
And what I lose, more I will gain:

There is no promise without pain-
There is no sunshine without rain-
There is no victory without strain-

There is gold here and I intend to find it.

Digging deep and looking back,
The lessons I’ve learned along this track,
I wouldn’t have believed if only told;

I have found it, that’s the gold.
