The Walking Away

I pondered today on the walking away -

from the lovers
the covers
the half hearted
the good enough-ers

Some easy to leave.
Some easy to grieve.

Tossing sticks in a fire and watching them burn;
oh, the lessons I learned.

I pondered today on the walking away -

from the drainers
the strainers
the time wasters
the betrayers

Trading my energy for a facade.
Forgetting I match the image of God.

Tossing sand to the wind and watching it blow;
oh, the lessons that I came to know.
